Happy New Year

It's that time of year when we all take a few moments to reflect on the past year and look to the future. I have been blessed with a 2014 that kept me busy and a 2015 that started with a bang. My sister sent me a text message to remind me that I had been neglecting my blog. (My apologies to those who stop in from time to time.) I'm feeling a bit more nostalgic than usual this January because I had the pleasure of doing some 8th grade graduation pictures with someone who to me is very much a part of my Mettler Portraits journey.

I took my first photography class in high school, you know when film was your only option so when the digital age began I headed back to school to learn. Waubonsee Community College has a wonderful photography program in case your interested. Up until that point I was a natural light shooter but I did not want to limit myself so I signed up for some lighting classes too.  I started out with an affordable set of "hot lights" and did my first paid shoot with them in July of 2008. One of my subjects was a two year old. Low powered lights, small children, and fast shutter speeds can spell disaster so I quickly started saving for strobes. When those strobes arrived it was a younger version of this sweet 8th grader who helped me test them out in the studio.

She is as much fun to spend time with now as she was back then. She is not only sweet and beautiful but smart and talented to boot. It has been my pleasure to talk with her and watch her grow.
